Forward four-wave mixing with defocusing nonlinearity.
We experimentally demonstrate degenerate, forward four-wave mixing effects in a self-defocusing photorefractive medium, in both one and two transverse dimensions. We observe the nonlinear evolution of new modes as a function of propagation distance, in both the near-field and far-field (Fourier space) regions.
متن کاملFour-wave mixing in microstructure fiber.
We report what we believe to be the first experimental demonstration of nondegenerate four-wave mixing in a microstructure fiber. The effect of the chi((3)) nonlinearity is enhanced in such a fiber because of the small core area, and we achieve phase matching by operating near the zero-dispersion wavelength (?750 nm) . We have observed parametric gains of more than 13 dB in 6.1-m-long fiber wit...
متن کاملFour Wave Mixing Nonlinearity Effect in WDM Radio over Fiber System
The optical networks are fast and error free but due to some nonlinearity effects, its performance degrades. The performance of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) in radio over fiber (RoF) systems is found to be strongly influenced by nonlinearity characteristics inside the fiber. In this paper, we have studied the effect of four wave mixing (FWM) as one of the influential factors in the WD...
متن کاملNonlinear fiber-optic strain sensor based on four-wave mixing in microstructured optical fiber.
We demonstrate a nonlinear fiber-optic strain sensor, which uses the shifts of four-wave mixing Stokes and anti-Stokes peaks caused by the strain-induced changes in the structure and refractive index of a microstructured optical fiber. The sensor thus uses the inherent nonlinearity of the fiber and does not require any advanced postprocessing of the fiber. Strain sensitivity of -0.23 pm/με is a...
متن کاملEffect of Fiber Length on Four Wave Mixing in WDM Optical Fiber Systems
This paper introduces the non linear optical effect known as four wave mixing (FWM). In wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems four wave mixing can strongly affect the transmission performance on an optical link. As a result it is important to investigate the impact of FWM on the design and performance of WDM optical communication systems. The main objective of this paper is to analyze ...
